(Home) swapping engines

I have a Townace CR36 4x4 year 94 model with a 2C engine. I'm trying to get the engine rebuilt. but i'm wondering if it would be a better idea to replace the engine with a 2C enigne from a post 98 NOAH model. does the new model have any benefits like fuel efficiency or more power? if so would i have to change the air filter compartment as well since the noah model has a different air filter all together. or will the current cylinder type airfilter work with out a problem.and will the engine mounts be the same and what other components might i have to change? i'm new to the subject of vehicles all together, so mind me with my language. any comments or sugesions would be highly appreciated. thanks

Interesting, if yours is a post 93 model, I would have thought it should have a 3CT engine, not a 2C. The 3CT is 2.2 litre turbocharged, the 2C is a 2.0 litre non-turbo. But largely irrelevant here.

As regards putting the Townace Noah engine in, I would think a complete no no, the Noah is completely different in design, AFAIK they didn't even use the 'C' series engine in them, that being said, many Toyota poerplants are actually interchangeable, as in some cases they use the same gearbox 'bellhousing' size & fittings. However engine mounting could still be difficult.

But there is an old saying that goes 'anything will fit anything - with a bracket'

I'm with Rob here. Plus, if you do happen to find a C-series Noah the likelyhood is that it'll have electronic injection, so you'll need to modify loom and probably instruments too...

yes my enigine is a 2litre non-turbo engine. i inquired from a few mechanics about fixing a 2C engine of a noah. i think the C-series engine comes with the earliest noah models. from the CR41 model. what one mechanic told me was the engine mounts were the same. and i could use the same gearbox which i had earlier. but i'd have to use some of the components from the noah 2C engine. as David has mentioned one person told me that it does have an EFI engine, but then a few others told me its quite simillar to the older 2C engine that i already had.(these r a few things i've found out after posting this message)

the problem i had earlier was the price i'd have to pay to rebuild the engine or fix a used engine( in good condition) will be simillar.( i live in Sri Lanka and the price for both are pretty much the same. aprox US$ 600) then i was wondering if i could fix a newer model engine. without much difficulty. any advice from u guys? any newer engines Turbo Charged or none turbo, with EFI and which could go into my van without much modification? and even if so will it be worth while doing it? or would you recomend for me to rebuild my old engine? but i wont be able to use Genuine toyota spares to rebuild it as the cost it extremely high. any advice on that?

Thanks Din

oh and i forgot to mention, the 2C engine i have is the one that comes with a vacuum pump on top. thought i'd mention that if it helps.
