(Home) Liteace

this message is for Ian Dunse . Do you have diagrams of the cooling system for my 92 tdliteace ?? Im not convinced yet that the garage are telling the truth about me needing to replace the head , im trying to flush the rad but i cant even find the bung on the main rad any help appreciated

Debra. The ALWAYS helpful Ian might not yet have seen your message but, perhaps, I could comment here. On the Townace, the radiator drain is virtually behind the offside front wheel, above the axle. It is likely to be the same on the Liteace but, it is very difficult to access and water flow, through this drain plug, is very limited. The easiest way to flush the radiator is to undo the hose clip and pull back the hose on the return connection (Bottom, left of radiator)and use a hose, or watering can, to flush the rad from the filler neck.
The radiator is a "crossflow" type so the coolant flows from right to left as it falls to the bottom of the radiator. If you have access to a hose, backflushing, ie, putting the hose in the bottom of the raditor so that the water flush comes back out of the filler cap neck, will be beneficial.
I can produce the coolant layout drawing for the Townace but, Ian might be able help with something for the Liteace. However, I should think that they are almost similar in layout

Thanks for the reply John.
We have now found the drain plug and have flushed the system, but are not convinced that all of the water is drained as we get about 4 litres from it.
On other posts we notice that there should be 7+ litres, though these are different models. There is talk of also draining the horizontal rad, but we find no means of doing this. We are presuming this is the small one just behind the bumper.
I am now going to backflush as suggested, and would be grateful if anyone can tell me how much water it should take. Thanks in advance.

i would check the thermostat is not blocking the flow over to the turbo as this happened to me and cracked the head. it was all broken and jamed closed so no coolant flowing over

"We are presuming this is the small one just behind the bumper."
No, unless your vehicle is a four wheel drive, it will not have the second horizontal radiator. The "radiator" which you mention, behind the bumper, is part of the aircon system.

Thanks Jason.
If thats the case then the water wont drain from the turbo either? Seems to make sense, so now I just have to find the thermostat and check it. any ideas where that is?
Youve probably guessed by now we have a fairly limited mechanical knowledge.

Ooooooooooops . thanks John.
We wont be trying to drain that one then.

Debra

sorry to have not responded to your post I've been laid up and out of circulation for the past few days. Also had trouble connecting to this site. About time the switch was made to the new one me thinks.

Is all well now? (thanks John)
