Liverpool Victoria have been recommended the most (see below) but you might draw a blank there.

(Aug 2004) An owner has recommended www.insurance-line.co.uk whose gold breakdown cover covers europe.

CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association). I gather that a current or ex-public servant can be a member for about £15 and this can result in a significant insurance premium discount.

Liverpool Victoria

Elsewhere you will find many reports that Liverpool Victoria (LV) are worth a look. LV trade under the name of their subsidiary Frizzell. In addition to responding positively about Townaces, and competitive premiums, they seem not to require an immobiliser which saves you letting someone loose on your car's complicated electrics.

However since about the middle of April 2003 I have been getting conflicting reports. Some say LV don't want to know, others confirm LV are helpful and offer the best value.

The best advice I can give at the moment is to ask LV for a quote without saying anything about this particular website, or that you don't want to fit an immobiliser, etc. There is no commercial link between LV and Ace Answers so there is no point saying any more than that you got LV's phone number from "the web".

Call 0800 748 748. They handle calls well, 8am - 8pm Mon to Fri and 8am - 4pm Sat. (Textphone 0800 169 3390 for hearing impaired)

One owner reported better success on an alternative number for LV - 08702 422405. LV tell me that they have about 20 numbers that all do the same thing - if you get turned down just try again until you get one of their dozens of staff who has a good understanding about imports. However your description of your car must match one of the descriptions on their database or they can't quote you. They tell me (4 June 2003) that the relevant descriptions listed are, rightly or wrongly:

I didn't dare ask about the even more complicated Liteaces. Clearly there are issues regarding year of manufacture, body type and turbos, which presumably some LV staff either understand, don't ask about or turn a blind eye to. I have tried to improve the situation by writing today to LV's motor underwriting department.

Let me know how you get on - Dave Mason, 4 June 2003.
