"Tailgate unlocked" warning

The "door open" warning on the dashboard (red picture of car with 2 doors open, at left) can be annoying because it comes on if the tailgate is unlocked even if it and all the other doors are not actually open. Unless you're driving alone you usually unlock all the other doors (including the tailgate) with the button on the driver's door armrest. Then you just have to get used to driving with the "door open" warning on unless you centrally lock all the doors again (which seems to be what is required in Japan, hence the way the warning is arranged) or persuade someone to manually lock the tailgate by pushing the button down.

In UK we are more used to driving with doors unlocked. To make the "doors open" warning ignore whether the tailgate is locked, disconnect the blue connectors circled in this diagram. Although the trim and plastic liner was completely removed to take the photo (and discover this solution), you should be able to do the job by just popping loose the bottom edge of the trim and the liner and reaching up inside. It's quite easy to squeeze the lower connector at the right place with your fingers to get them apart.

If you do this the interior light will still be operated normally when the tailgate is opened, and the "door open" warning light will still come on if the tailgate, or any other door, is not shut properly - there is a separate switch ciruit for these features.
