Faults
Dealing with faults relies on your own knowledge or that of the repairer you use, guidance from manuals and from contributors to this website - by reading through past discussions and, if that doesn't work, submitting your own question.
You might expect 'Ace Answers to have a Fault Diagnosis "flow chart" or similar, just as any decent car manual has. Indeed until recently there was a table on this page with a sketchy attempt at such a thing. Why not now? Well four main reasons...
- Most of the stuff in car manuals is pretty standard and applies to any car. You or your repairer are probably familiar with it. No point in repeating that here. If, say, it won't start and you want some ideas, look in any manual for a car, though a Toyota one will be best.
- For most faults it is pretty obvious where the problem is, and what you, or your repairer, want is the "Ace" Answer. If door locks are puzzling you then look in Ace Answers Bodywork folder, if the rear heater isn't working then you look in Ace Answers Heating folder, etc.
- To have a table here would work against us because if I hadn't got round to listing your fault here but you could easily deal with it by reading the discussions in the appropriate section of Ace Answers, then either you might go away disappointed, or you might needlessly be posting a repeat question to the BoK.
- For some faults you have the symptoms but it is NOT obvious where the fault lies. My aim is to cover these situations, only, in this folder, e. g. "Noise" and "Smoke".
