The "Mason" engine temperature alarm.

  • Many vehicle temperature gauges show the engine warming up and then "stick" at some point near the centre, giving the impression that the cooling system is controlling the temperature very well. The picture below has temperatures in degC superimposed over images of an Estima gauge. It shows, on the left, a calibration of the gauge as fitted in a Toyota Estima - the pointer would "stick" at the point marked "90/115" until the temperature rises above 115degC. Variations within that range were of no interest in a new, well-maintained vehicle.
  • This engine temperature alarm accessory was developed, in 2003, especially for such vehicles as they get older. It has two effects:
    • First, its design is specific to the vehicle type and electronically compensates your gauge to remove the "sticking point" as shown in the diagram below, on the right. The temperature range previously hidden at the sticking point is now visible across the upper part of the dial.
    • Second, it provides an audible alarm which you can preset to go off at a chosen point on the dial - typically just above the maximium temperature which the engine normally reaches.
  • Your gauge will then tell you more about temperature variations and the audible alarm will alert you to look at it if you don't notice an abnormal occurrance. More information
  • It is easy to fit. You just need to sit in the driver's seat with a screwdriver and connect it to three terminals behind the gauge on the dashboard. No need to remove the gauge. No crawling around, no oily bits. Links to instructions below. A diagram showing the connections will be supplied with your alarm.
  • You can only get this product here. I make them myself, construction is lead-free. It comes in a small packet, small enough to go through your letterbox.
  • Order with your credit card (or PayPal account) online via PayPal using the button below. Order the right version. For Toyota Townaces, is the scale a solid line under the "C" and "H"? or dotted above them?
  • Be secure The links below will take you to PayPal who handle your personal details. Only your name/address, alarm type and confirmation of your payment are forwarded by Paypal to Ace Answers.
